Beijing Hutong refers to typical alleys or relatively small/narrow streets in Beijing, which originated in/come into being in the Yuan Dynasty. The names of Beijing Hutongs are various/have various source and are all-inclusive. Some are named after people/figures, some are named based on the symbol buildings in the alleys and some get the names from their shapes. For example, Zhang Zizhong Road is a Hutong named after Zhang Zizhong, a famous anti-Japanese general. Beijing Hutong are not only living place/residence of/for the common/ordinary dwellers in Beijing, but also the special/unique cultural name card of Beijing. Therefore, they represent the grassroots culture of Beijing.
