1. (LY2.15) 子曰：“學(xué)而不思則罔，思而不學(xué)則殆。”
The master said: “Learning without profound thinking will lead yourself to a state of perplexity. Thinking without the guidance of learning will put yourself in jeopardy.”
2. (LY5.3) 子謂子賤，“君子哉若人！魯無君子者，斯焉取斯？”
Confucius spoke of Zijian: “ What a virtuous man he is! If there were no virtuous men in the state of Lu, then where could he achieve such a virtue?”
3. (LY7.11) 子曰：“富而可求也，雖執(zhí)鞭之士，吾亦為之。如不可求，從吾所好?！?br>The master said: “If wealth is acquirable, I will strive for it even if I am asked to be a low-ranking lasher. Otherwise, I will do whatever I like.”
4. (LY9.17) 子曰：“吾未見好德，如好色者也。”
The master said: “I haven’t seen anyone who appreciates virtue as much as beauty. ”
5. (LY12.8) 棘子成曰︰“君子質(zhì)而已矣，何以文為？”子貢曰︰“惜乎，夫子之說君子也，駟不及舌！文猶質(zhì)也，質(zhì)猶文也；虎豹之鞹，猶犬羊之鞹?！?br>6. (LY14.18) 子貢曰︰“管仲非仁者與？桓公殺公子糾，不能死，又相之?！弊釉哗U“管仲相桓公，霸諸侯，一匡天下，民到于今受其賜。微管仲，吾其被髮左衽矣！豈若匹夫匹婦之為諒也，自經(jīng)於溝瀆，而莫之知也！”
7. (LY15.35) 子曰︰“當(dāng)仁，不讓於師?！?br>The master said: “When you face benevolence, do not concede a bit even to your master.”
8.(LY19.7) 子夏曰︰“百工居肆以成其事；君子學(xué)以致其道。”
Zixia said: “Craftsmen from all walks of life have to make their day-to-day artifacts in their workshops . Virtuous men have to achieve the Dao through lifelong learning.”
